A saline lake sitting inside a meteorite crater in basalt — one of very few known anywhere, and the only one of its kind in India.
About Lonar Sarovar
Lonar was formed by a hyper-velocity impact into the Deccan Traps, and for a long time it was assumed to be volcanic. The water is both saline and alkaline at once, which is unusual enough that it supports microbial life found almost nowhere else, and the lake has been recorded changing colour. A rim walk with temples scattered around it takes a couple of hours. It is a long drive on ordinary roads, so it works best as a full day rather than an afternoon.

Lonar Sarovar is approximately 150 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where several of our partner hospitals are located. A full day. We can arrange a car and driver, and if you are travelling with a recovering patient we will check the plan with the treating doctor first.
