Paithan

An ancient town on the Godavari, known for Paithani silk weaving and the gardens below the Jayakwadi dam.

About Paithan

Paithan was Pratishthana, capital of the Satavahanas, and traded with Rome two thousand years ago. Today it is known for two things: Paithani saris, still woven by hand in workshops you can visit, and Sant Dnyaneshwar Udyan, a large terraced garden below the Jayakwadi dam. The weaving is the reason to come — watching a border take shape a thread at a time explains the price better than any label.

Visiting Paithan from the hospital

Paithan is approximately 55 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where several of our partner hospitals are located. Half a day. We can arrange a car and driver, and if you are travelling with a recovering patient we will check the plan with the treating doctor first.
